The signs make Burns Street Studios easier to spot. More importantly, they give the building a clearer identity from the street.

They also tell a nice story about the creative network that has grown around Burns Street Studios.

New Signage for Our Creative Hub in Glasgow

Burns Street Studios sits just north of Glasgow city centre, in the Speirs Wharf area, along side National Theatre of Scotland, Scottish Opera, Royal Conservatoire, The Glue Factory and more. Inside, you’ll find artists, designers, performers, makers and creative businesses.

We wanted the outside of the building to better reflect everything happening inside.

Our new signage now makes it easier for visitors to find us. So, whether you’re arriving for a rehearsal, exhibition, workshop or meeting, you’ll know you’re in the right place.

Designed, Cut and Made by Glasgow Creatives

One of our favourite things about the project is how the signs came together.

Flux Laser & CNC Studio, based on the ground floor at Burns Street Studios, cut the components for the signs.

Flux has supported artists, designers and creative businesses with laser cutting and CNC services since 2012. Its large-format CNC router can also cut full sheets up to 2400 x 1200mm. This makes it ideal for larger fabrication and signage projects.

After Flux cut the components, one of its customers, Sign & Digital Print, made and installed the finished signs.

So, rather fittingly, businesses connected through our building helped create the new identity for Burns Street Studios.

More Than Just Studio Space

That collaboration sums up what we want Burns Street Studios to offer.

We are more than a collection of rooms for hire. Instead, we aim to create a creative hub in Glasgow where different disciplines can work alongside each other.

Upstairs, our 170m² Main Hall hosts art exhibitions, theatre rehearsals and performances. We also welcome music and dance rehearsals, workshops, filming and photography.

Alongside the Main Hall, we have smaller studios and office spaces for creative businesses.

Meanwhile, Flux provides professional fabrication facilities on the ground floor. Its services include laser cutting, CNC routing and vinyl cutting.

As a result, creative projects can move through several stages under one roof. An idea might begin at a desk before moving downstairs for fabrication. Afterwards, the finished work can return upstairs for testing, photography, rehearsal or exhibition.

Building a Creative Hub in Glasgow

The new signage might seem like a small change. However, it feels like another important step for Burns Street Studios.

Over the past few years, we have continued to invest in the building. For example, we have installed solar panels and upgraded the Main Hall with bright LED lighting.

We have also continued improving the facilities available to our tenants, visitors and hirers.

As a Community Interest Company, Burns Street Studios reinvests its profits into the organisation. This helps us improve the building and continue supporting Glasgow’s creative community.

Now, finally, we have signs outside to tell everyone we’re here!

Planning an exhibition, rehearsal or creative project? Our diary is now officially open for Glasgow creative venue hire in 2028, while dates throughout 2027 are already beginning to fill.

At Burns Street Studios, we know that larger creative projects often need plenty of advance planning. Theatre productions, exhibitions, touring shows and performance projects can take months, or even years, to bring together. Therefore, we are very happy to discuss dates well in advance and pencil in suitable periods for your project.

If you are considering Burns Street Studios for 2027 or 2028, we would encourage you to get in touch early.

Flexible Creative Venue Hire for Exhibitions and Performances

Our Main Hall is a bright, flexible creative space measuring approximately 10m x 17m, giving you around 170 square metres to work with.

Over the years, the space has been used for a huge variety of creative projects. These include art exhibitions, theatre rehearsals, music rehearsals, dance and movement, performances, workshops, filming and photography.

In particular, the open layout makes it easy to adapt the room around each project. An artist might use the space to install and photograph large-scale work, while a theatre company can use the same room to develop and rehearse a production.

As a result, our Glasgow creative venue hire works particularly well for projects that need room to experiment and evolve.

An Art Exhibition Space in Glasgow

We have welcomed a growing number of artists, students and creative organisations to Burns Street Studios for exhibitions.

The scale of the Main Hall gives artists space to stand back from their work and experiment with different layouts. Meanwhile, our bright LED lighting was specifically selected with art and performance use in mind, providing a bright and balanced environment throughout the room.

The space can be used for the complete development of an exhibition, from installation and documentation through to private views and public opening days.

Glasgow Rehearsal Space for Theatre, Dance and Music

Burns Street Studios also provides a spacious rehearsal venue in Glasgow for theatre companies, performers, musicians and dancers.

The large open floor gives groups room to develop movement, blocking, staging and performance ideas without being restricted by a small rehearsal room.

Furthermore, Glasgow’s transport connections make Burns Street Studios a useful base for companies developing work locally or preparing productions for touring and festivals. We are a short walk from Subway, Bus and Train connections, as well as being just next to the cycle path.

Facilities for Your Creative Project

Alongside the Main Hall, hirers have access to useful facilities within the building, including:

• Approximately 170m² Main Hall
• Bright, colour-balanced LED lighting
• Accessible toilet
• Shared kitchen facilities and Break Out Space
• Wheelchair lift access to the first floor
• Small PA available by request
• Power sockets around the Main Hall
• Maximum capacity of 80 people
• Access to additional creative and studio spaces within the building

Burns Street Studios is also home to Flux Laser & CNC Studio, so professional laser cutting, CNC routing and fabrication services are available within the same building. This can be particularly useful for artists, designers and theatre makers who need to produce signage, displays, set elements, models or fabricated components for their projects.

Planning Glasgow Creative Venue Hire for 2027 or 2028?

Although 2028 might sound a long way away, we are already receiving enquiries.

Our 2027 diary is filling up, particularly for longer bookings and projects requiring specific weeks. Opening the 2028 diary now means artists, theatre companies and creative organisations can start planning with confidence.

So, whether you are developing an art exhibition, rehearsing a new theatre production, bringing musicians together, creating a dance piece or looking for somewhere to present a performance, we would love to hear what you are planning.

By generating renewable energy on-site, we’re significantly reducing our reliance on traditional energy sources and lowering our carbon footprint. These savings allow us to maintain affordable rates for the artists, theatre groups, and creative businesses that rely on our spaces.

As a community-focused organization, we believe in leading by example. The creative industries can have a significant environmental impact, but small changes—like generating renewable energy—can make a big difference. Our solar panels will cut down on energy costs, enabling us to pass savings on to our users while staying true to our eco-conscious values.

Our main hall is a bustling hub for theatre rehearsals, art exhibitions, and community events, and now it operates more sustainably than ever. Whether it’s students preparing their next big performance or artists showcasing their latest work, we’re proud to offer a space powered by clean energy.

This project reflects our belief that creativity and sustainability go hand in hand. As we look to the future, we’ll continue exploring ways to make Burns Street Studios a greener, more accessible space for all.

We’d like to thank our collaborators, including support from Glasgow City Council Business Advisors and Business Energy Scotland, for helping us bring this project to life. Stay tuned for more updates as we continue to invest in a brighter, greener future!

The interim art exhibition is a vital stepping stone in the students’ artistic journey, allowing them to explore how their concepts resonate with an audience, refine their ideas, and embrace the challenges of exhibiting outside their familiar studio environment in an art exhibition space.

Burns Street Studios director, Alice Jacobs, was particularly excited to host the event. Alice herself is a proud Sculpture & Environmental Art graduate from Glasgow School of Art’s class of 2012. Seeing these talented young artists presenting work in the same program she once called home was an inspiring full-circle moment for her.

Public Openings and Performances
The show featured public openings on two Thursday evenings, drawing in a diverse audience from the local community. Visitors experienced a wide range of works, from installations and sculptures to dynamic performances. The energy in the hall was electric as the students engaged with attendees, offering insights into their creative processes and ambitions.

We are incredibly proud to provide a space where emerging artists can showcase their work and gain the confidence to launch their careers. The event aligns with our mission to support the creative community by fostering collaboration and offering affordable, versatile spaces.

We’d like to thank the students and staff from GSA for their hard work and commitment to making the interim show a success. For more information about the Sculpture and Environmental Art program at GSA, visit their official webpage.

Stay tuned for more updates and events as we continue to champion the arts at Burns Street Studios!
